Shilo Byrd Studio is a fashion pattern, sample, and production studio based in NYC, primarily serving the Ready-To-Wear segment of the garment industry. The studio is owned and operated by inventive pattern-cutter, Shilo Byrd, and product developer, Jené Stefaniak.
We believe in specialists for specialized work. Our development and sampling capabilities encompass a wide range of garments and fabrications. With a staff of specialists, our expertise includes, but is not limited to tailored and draped wovens, eveningwear, corsetry, swimwear, lingerie, active and outerwear for both Menswear and Womenswear. In addition, we offer technical design, pre-production coordination, small run production, and large scale production coordination.
Our clientele includes fully established fashion brands showing and selling garments nationally and internationally to emerging designers. Every client we work with shares our passion for beautiful, well-crafted apparels.
Owner & Head Patternmaker
The daughter of a custom bridal dressmaker, Shilo studied patternmaking and technical design at the Fashion Institute of Technology after gaining an interest in construction and fit working under a tailor. Shilo spent the early years of her career primarily freelancing in and out of numerous well known NYC based RTW brands, she is now a patternmaker with nearly a decade of experience.
Owner & Head of Product Development
Jené studied bespoke development and construction under the Savile Row Tailors Guild in London, and landed in NYC to undertake further training in Couture and Eveningwear techniques for womenswear at Fashion Institute of Technology. Prior to joining the studio, Jené has spent the last seven years working in various ateliers both in London and New York as a stitcher, tailor, and restorer of vintage couture garments.
Senior Intimates Developer
Melissa studied Fashion Design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After interning for various SF designers, she moved to NYC to design for a contemporary lingerie and swim brand. In her 6+ years of experience she has worked as a designer, patternmaker, and production consultant for lingerie, loungewear, swimwear, activewear and shapewear brands across the country.
Associate Intimates Developer
Jenna studied Fashion Design at Ryerson University in Toronto. There she interned for a luxury level lingerie brand and fell in love with the intimate apparel industry. This inspired her to create a 15 piece lingerie and loungewear collection, with a special focus on underwire. For the past 5 years Jenna has worked for various lingerie brands doing product development and sample making.
Product Development Assistant
Grace attended The Fashion Institute of Technology and Nottingham Trent University to attain her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with a focus on knitwear. She uses her technical skills to develop and construct a wide variety of luxury garments. Upon graduating, Grace has held titles including Head Technical Designer for a RTW company and Production Assistant for a Bridal company.
Product Development Assistant
Sonja studied fashion design at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She chose to study fashion because of her love of construction and sewing as well an obsession with beautiful fabrics. Sonja interned for Shilo Byrd Studio in 2016 to great success, and after obtaining her Bachelors of Fine Arts in fashion design and product development, she returned to the studio as staff.
After working around the world in biomedical laboratories with a doctorate in biochemistry, Katy decided to develop her interests in patternmaking, fit, and construction by pursuing a second career in the fashion industry. She then completed the Fashion Design program at Parsons School of Design, and had interned at various designer and luxury brands before joining Shilo Byrd Studio as Assistant Patternmaker.
Alex van Riel
Assistant Intimates & Swim Developer
Alex studied Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design, where she found her passion lay in swim and intimates as well as construction. During her four years at Parsons, she completed a number of internships at both small and large companies, interning as a patternmaking assistant multiple times. Upon graduation, she joined the Studio as an Assistant Intimates & Swim Developer.
Brand Development Manager
Maddi attended Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA to receive her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Fashion Marketing and Management with a concentration in Branding. During her education, she also studied Fashion Styling at Central Saint Martins in London, England and High Fashion and Photographic Makeup at the London School of Beauty and Makeup. After working in freelance marketing and press event positions remotely for 3+ years, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in fashion press and marketing.
Technical Designer and Production Coordinator
Mirrah studied Fashion Design at The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Finding her niche in technical design after focusing in a Gerber based tech design course, she then interned for various California designers, liaising between designer and local factories for small run women’s RTW collections. In addition, she has over a decade of luxury retail experience and as a buyer focusing on curating collections of sustainable, ethically produced, and US based manufactured apparel.
Thread & Lint Sourcing Specialist
Kit is an integral part of Shilo Byrd Studio. Kit has 9 years of experience in sourcing specialty threads and lint, particularly in places that are hard to reach. Further, she works in an HR capacity providing stress management support for staff on stressful Fashion Week deadlines and a does a significant amount of client relations work wherein she attends all meetings, fit sessions, and lunches held on premises. Kit is a passionate vegetarian with a special love for carrots, apples, and anything crunchy and sweet!
